Position Overview - Backend Developer

Profile Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer to join our European engineering team. This role requires deep expertise in building secure, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that comply with European regulations and international best practices. The successful candidate will design and implement APIs, services, and data workflows that form the foundation of resilient digital products.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices architectures.
• Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance through robust engineering practices.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization, and data protection mechanisms in compliance with GDPR, NIS2, and relevant EU standards.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Integrate with relational and non-relational databases, optimizing performance and ensuring data integrity.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing suites, and monitoring systems.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and enforce coding standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environments with a focus on resilience and continuous improvement.
• Stay current with emerging backend technologies, cloud solutions, and European compliance requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience as a Backend Developer, Software Engineer, or similar role.
• Strong proficiency using Java with the Spring Framework and cryptographic libraries such as BouncyCastle.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL.
• Solid understanding of database technologies such as CockroachDB..
• Proficiency with containerization and orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and serverless architectures.
• Strong grasp of software design patterns, distributed systems, and system integration.
• Understanding of secure coding practices, encryption, and EU data compliance.

Language & Communication Requirements

• Professional proficiency in English, written and spoken, is mandatory.
• Proficiency in an additional EU language, such as German, French, Dutch, Spanish or Italian, is strongly preferred.
• Ability to document backend architecture clearly and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
• Certifications in relevant technologies and security methodologies.
• Experience with message brokers and streaming platforms, such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with observability tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Contributions to open-source projects or participation in European technology initiatives.
